an introduction of sorts to blogs to come

when i think about the differences between this summer and last music comes to mind.

this past school (my day job) year was long for me.  but, i successfully completed it.  one of the ways i was able to do so was music.  i was able to join an all brass quintet and play christmas tunes around the neighborhood.  we took it a step further and played for a youth fundraiser activity.  while everyone else was getting ice cream (ncsu made) we were getting ready to play.

we practiced for about an hour on and off for a few months.  we played out of the canadian brass book. i love this stuff.  the unique thing is that this was similar yet very different from playing taiko.

the future posts will attempt to compare and contrast the 5 senses i experienced with playing trumpet with taiko.  in doing so, i hope to convey not only how music is important to me, but in doing so, shed some light into why i enjoy playing as a member of a group and not solo practice time.

About charleswinstead

having lived in japan for 3.5 years i wish to "go back to the island" as often as i can. i lived from 1999-2003. i went back in 2007, then again in 2011. i am a full time teacher, so the best time to go for me is during the summer vacation. it works out well because i love the sensational feelings i get in japan during the summer...especially playing taiko and eating lots of ma-cha ice.
